Our approach to sustainability draws from our purpose: to improve the world using our passion for mathematics. We take a continuous improvement approach to our work and extend the same dedication to our journey to help create a positive impact for people, the planet, and shared prosperity.
We align our impact to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Enhancing Positive Impact through Our Solutions
We help many of the world's best-run organizations make better data-driven decisions that benefit their business, employees, and the environment. We began measuring our collective positive impact in 2018 – since then, we have helped our customers:
- Reach an average of 950,000 people every year through our products and services;
- Prevent 4.6 million tons of CO2 emissions from tailpipes;
- Improve financials by 7 billion Euros through our solutions.
ORTEC has a wide variety of solutions and customers - to track our impact, we use figures from a combination of internal data systems and reports and extrapolate them. We then use external factors to convert these figures into our impact metrics.
Supporting analytics for a better world
Alongside the University of Amsterdam (UvA), ORTEC is a founding partner of Analytics for a Better World (ABW), a pioneering initiative that unites exceptional minds with a shared mission: leveraging analytics in conjunction with the public sector and non-profits, to drive progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Funding Climate Mitigation
We support climate action by funding projects that help mitigate climate change. While we work towards understanding and reducing our own carbon footprint, our commitment to being an environmentally sustainable company started with annual contributions towards initiatives that offset 110% of our emissions. Based on this, ORTEC was certified under the PAS 2060 Standard for Carbon Neutrality.
Our Emissions
We report our carbon emissions based on the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and continue to expand on our carbon accounting. We are transparent in our progress and understand there is still much to be done towards a cleaner and greener future.
- Over 38% reductions in carbon intensity (Scope 1 & 2/€M) from pre-COVID19 levels;
- Over 60% reductions in Business Travel emissions (per FTE) from pre-COVID19 levels;
- PAS2060-certified in 2022.
Our Offices
At ORTEC offices, we have introduced the procurement of circular and ethical products, reduced plastic use and disposable goods, carried out the recycling of e-waste and strived to efficiently use resources in our daily operations.
- 0% disposable cups and plastics at all Dutch offices;
- 782kg of computer hardware waste processed (in 2022) based on the WEEELABEX standard with a minimum recycling percentage of 85%.

- Over 80% of ORTEC employees completed an Unconscious Bias Training.
