ORTEC at The Dutch Mathematical Olympiad 2024

For many years, ORTEC has been a proud sponsor and loyal participant in the Dutch Mathematical Olympiad. This is a friendly annual competition for students and professional mathematicians from the business world. This year, 23 teams from 11 different companies competed. Under a tight time-crunch with numbers flying over the paper, participants at the 2024 Dutch Mathematical Olympiad for Business (WOB) in Utrecht rattled their brains in the name of mathematics.

Getting prepared for the competition day
To determine who would represent ORTEC at the 2024 Dutch Mathematical Olympiad, ORTEC held a hybrid internal selection round. In total, 22 ORTEC employees studied complex mathematical assignments at home and were rigorously tested to be prepared for the upcoming competition. The selection round resulted in nine finalists to represent ORTEC at the real competition.
The competition: mathletes, assemble!
This year, the Dutch Mathematic Olympiad for Business was hosted by Rabobank in Utrecht. In total, 69 participants divided into 23 teams from 11 different companies were given just one hour to complete various complex assignments. On the 18th floor looking over the cloudy day in Utrecht, our nine ORTEC mathletes were excited to start the competition.
Congratulations to the winners
🏆 We want to congratulate the top 3 teams this year, consisting of an impressive result by Optiver securing first and second place with two of their teams, and ABN AMRO for securing a highly competitive third place. In the individual rankings, we would like to give a special round of applause to ORTEC’s own Kamiel Cornelissen who finished just outside of the podium places.

As ORTEC’s mathletes look back at this year’s Olympiad, they are excited to challenge themselves in the upcoming 2025 Olympiad. The next edition of the Dutch Mathematics Olympiad will be held on January 31st, 2025. We look forward to participating in this innovative and friendly competition and are eager to enter the finals once again.

Since 2012, the Dutch Mathematical Olympiad for Businesses has been held every year. It is a friendly competition for professional mathematicians from the business world. The field of participants consists of employees of companies that are affiliated with the Dutch Mathematical Olympiad as partners, sponsors, or business relations.
