Consortia are large organizations with members from many different institutions and companies lacking a shared IT-infrastructure you normally would see in an organization. Of course, e-mail systems with sometimes e-mail groups and perhaps a file share system are used, but to support collaboration across these organizations an intranet is missing. A communication system that unites the consortium members and make them feel part of their community. Using an email system to exchange information requires an e-mail archive at each individual member. Leading to errors in using to what is expected to be the latest versions of documents.
ORTEC created ScienCrew based on ORTEC Relevance, a premium communication platform. The purpose of ScienCrew is to optimize communication in a consortium and by that to build the community. It organizes access to information, documents, and templates. Additionally, it is used to inform members among each other on status and progress or about special events, great achievements and to share research results. Chat messages offer the option to exchange short messages within a selected group. ScienCrew is accessible both via the web and via a mobile app. Important to realize is that the initial granted project ends at one day, but the Community will continue.
ScienCrew encourages community building in a consortium, by keeping external stakeholders up to date and facilitating communication between consortium members.
