ORTEC - Q&A Georgia Tech Analytics

• Do I need previous professional experience in supply chain management or analytics to take the courses?
We recommend having some experience, but it is not required for the first course. While you are not required to complete the courses in order, you will be expected to have knowledge of any previous course’s content and the ability to apply the skills it covered.

• Is this program also available to international applicants?
Yes.

• Who will host the courses?
Georgia Tech will host the first four courses online via their website. Information will be sent via email once registration is complete.

• How do I register for courses?
Registration is available via the Georgia Tech Professional Education website. Once on the site, add a desired course to your shopping cart for purchase then proceed to checkout to complete registration.

• Will there be course material to review and to keep?
Yes, course material will be available for you.

• Do I need to already know how to use Python and PowerBI?
We recommend but do not require that you are already familiar with Python and PowerBI. We will provide technical guides to help you get up to speed with the programs a few weeks before each course begins. One week before each course, you can join an optional webinar to test your software, get assistance installing the programs, and learn exactly what you need to be able to do within Python and PowerBI for the course.

• Will these courses teach me how to code?
These courses focus on how to apply analytics to supply chain management and use Python and PowerBI as tools. The courses do not focus on the basics of coding. You are welcome to start your coding education in the weeks leading up to a course by using the technical guides and optional pre-course webinar. However, if you wait until the first webinar in a course to attempt to code for the first time, you will likely be distracted by the code and not be able to fully pay attention to the course’s content.

• Why Python and PowerBI?
You can use many different programs for using analytics to address supply chain challenges. We chose these programs for these courses due to their accessibility, relative easiness to learn, and pervasiveness throughout current supply chain analytics projects.

• How much hands-on experience will I get?
You will practice the concepts you learn using data from the fictional Cardboard Company. This case is based on real projects with which the instructors have worked and is designed to allow you to practice applying analytics on realistic challenges.
