ORTEC will provide a multidisciplinary project team to one of the five nonprofits selected for the 2026 Impact Accelerator Program by Analytics for a Better World (ABW). Running from January to April 2026, the program applies business-grade data science, AI, and optimization methods to help nonprofits solve mission-critical challenges, deliver measurable outcomes faster, and embed lasting data capabilities for long-term impact.
As a founding partner of ABW, alongside the University of Amsterdam and MIT Professor Dimitris Bertsimas, ORTEC has been bringing its commercial analytics expertise to global social and environmental initiatives since 2022, working on projects ranging from ocean plastic removal with The Ocean Cleanup to improving healthcare delivery across Africa with Amref Health Africa.
The Impact Accelerator Program will provide each selected nonprofit with around €120,000 worth of expert support, tools, and training. The program aims to address the fact that only 17% of UN Sustainable Development Goals are on track for 2030, by giving nonprofits the specialist resources and knowledge they need to scale their impact.
“Our team is excited to bring ORTEC’s decades of experience in data, AI, and optimization software directly to nonprofit partners. By working side-by-side, we help them make decisions that are smarter, faster, and more impactful equipping them to meet future challenges on their own.” — Herman Wierenga, COO at ORTEC
For the duration of the program, ORTEC will provide a multidisciplinary project team of analytics experts, optimization specialists, and software engineers to work hands-on with selected nonprofits. This initiative offers ORTEC employees the opportunity to contribute to global causes, develop cross-sector experience, and apply their skills in complex, high-impact settings. They will help design and implement tailored data solutions mirroring the approach used in ABW’s prior success stories.
One such example is ABW’s work with The Ocean Cleanup, which, with support from ORTEC specialists and university researchers, developed predictive and prescriptive models that halved the time and cost required to remove plastic from the oceans.
Many nonprofits are already doing great work and have valuable data. What they often lack is the time and specialized data and analytics expertise to unlock the full potential of their mission and programs. ORTEC’s involvement means these organizations get the skills, knowledge, and confidence to apply data for good far into the future accelerating their missions and achieving the impact they are capable of.
Applications for the ABW Impact Accelerator Program are open until October 24, 2025. More information and application details are available at: ABW Impact Accelerator Program.
