ORTEC #TEC Magazine: How did the cooperation start?

Stefan Huntemann, Managing Partner at ORTEC Germany:

We are active in the supply chain particularly in the area of transport planning, i.e. before execution. We are experts in all topics related to strategic and tactical routing as well as load optimization. But we wanted to offer our customers even more.

Stephan Sieber, CEO Transporeon:

And that is where we got involved. Our business area is the execution of transports. We allocate the transport orders to the right carriers, monitor the processing with real-time visibility, manage the time slots for loading and unloading and handle the entire settlement process. We also support our customers in tendering and sourcing the right transport service providers.

Stefan Huntemann: ORTEC and Transporeon are a perfect match because the solutions of both companies build upon each other.

"#TEC Magazine: How did the cooperation start?"

What are the benefits for your customers?

Stephan Sieber:

There are many approaches here. I am thinking of the direct transfer of data from tactical planning to execution and the other way around, or the integration of our add-ons in the SAP area. By using SAP, our customers will have completely new possibilities for integrating scenarios in the future, for example based on an ORTEC tour or a previously received capacity request via Transporeon.

How did you get together?

Stefan Huntemann:

As two of the leading technology companies in the field of logistics and supply chain, we have been working together as partners for a long time. We had initial meetings in 2017 and formally came together in February 2020. Our cooperation is a result of our mutual appreciation and the confidence that together we can provide solutions that create great value for our customers.

Stephan Sieber: We have already started developing joint showcases for customers. In addition, we will implement consulting projects working closely together and also collaborate on marketing and sales activities.

"What are the next steps?"

What could we expect in a common solution?

Stefan Huntemann:

In transport planning, customers often face the situation that transport capacities need to be requested as early as possible. In the current process, for example, usually not all shipment information, such as final delivery-relevant data is available in SAP. Therefore, the dispatching department is not able to plan the SAP transport and transfer the data to Transporeon for the allocation. By combining the planning tools from ORTEC and Transporeon we can close this gap.

How does the capacity request take place?

Stephan Sieber:

This is not based on the SAP transport, i.e. the shipment and the corresponding deliveries, but on ORTEC's planning object. The ORTEC tours already contains the necessary details of a transport, which are necessary to secure the transport capacity via Transporeon. This gives customers the opportunity to submit the transport request via Transporeon at an earlier time. The following SAP document flow is not affected and can be started and completed later.

Will there be a complete integration of your software solutions in a single interface for users shortly?

Stefan Huntemann:

This would initially be possible especially in the SAP environment. We offer add-ons for both SAP ECC and S/4HANA which are already available to customers for transport planning and dispatch. It really makes sense to combine them in an integrated solution so the users will be able to work on a standardized interface.
