ORTEC presented AI and self-scheduling results in workforce at World Class Digital Health 2025

This prestigious international event brings together healthcare innovators from around the world to share innovative strategies, pioneering solutions, and best practices.
As a keynote speech, Goos Kant from ORTEC presented innovative solutions applying AI, at the World Class Digital Health conference. Peter Kustermans from Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST) was co-presenter, presenting strong improvements in employee engagement, absenteeism and hospital bed utilization, thanks to the implementation of collaborative self-scheduling methodology for the nurses and multi-resource planning for the medical specialists. To make this a success, MST is using the ORTEC workforce scheduling solution, including employee self-service apps and optimizers.

The results:
- A strong improvement in employee engagement.
- Illness reduced considerably.
- Bed utilization improved by over 2%, since in the past some beds were closed due to lack of staff.
Next to these results, the multi-resource planning for the medical specialists also lead to an optimized roster structure, an integration of the chain capacity and a direct connection to the roster of the consultation rooms and operating rooms. On top of this, there are shorter turnaround times for roster creation, and more reliable operational execution.
