“ORTEC thinks the development of employees is important. For example, every employee has a career plan that is evaluated and adjusted every year. On the basis of that plan you set targets. As a trainee you will have a one-on-one talk every two weeks, during which we review your development. In such a talk I look what someone needs and try to provide it. But in particular I try to coach someone. The ideal is that people take their development into their own hands.”

“By doing a project in several places in the organization you learn a lot as a trainee. And that also applies to the organization: we really notice that trainees bring the departments closer together. They ensure that knowledge is shared more easily among teams. That benefits everyone.”

”As a trainee you find yourself in a welcoming home here, I believe. Most colleagues here have a science background. You don't find any macho behaviour here, but we are reasonably competitive. We like puzzles and games for instance - the national Puzzle and Sudoku championship is even held here at the office. And everyone wants to think up the smartest solution for a problem. But it never becomes annoying. We like to help each other.”

“At ORTEC you work for small and for large customers. The software that you make here can therefore have a lot of impact. If it ensures that trucks of a large customer can travel fewer miles, this really makes a difference in CO2 emission. Perhaps we are not the most visible player to the outside world, but we do have a lot of influence.”
