"The next generation of delivery solutions"

ORTEC, a leading provider of optimization software and analytics solutions, is among a select group of vendors highlighted in Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Supply Chain Execution Technologies for last-mile delivery solutions.

The report focuses on technology used to support logistics and fulfillment processes (such as transportation) across various industries and geographies. The Hype Cycle is a graphical presentation that shows the maturity, viability and riskiness of emerging execution technologies used to help supply chain leaders solve business challenges.

One emerging technology is last-mile delivery solutions, referred to in the report as “the next generation of delivery solutions.” They help track activities and locations of products to their destination.

“Last-mile delivery solutions are increasing,” according to Gartner. “Many of these solutions use AI and machine learning to speed up the optimization process and predict occurrences and impacts based on real-time information.”

ORTEC uses machine learning and AI technologies to help supply chain customers load, route and deliver products, particularly by enhancing delivery accuracy and efficiency.

“We value the recommendation of Gartner and appreciate the opportunity to be recognized with these technologies,” said Jeff Bailey, CEO, North America at ORTEC. “Last-mile delivery solutions play such a crucial role in supply chains and customer experience, especially with COVID-19 affecting industry demand and fulfillment strategies. ORTEC is helping businesses adopt to the changing market expectations with data-driven logistics technology and tools.”

Last-mile delivery technology has additional benefits in the supply chain industry.

According to Gartner, “Last-mile delivery solutions will not only provide benefits to e-commerce companies and other shippers focused on last mile but can also add incremental benefits to mature users of routing and scheduling, further reducing costs and improving customer service in dynamic environments.”

Companies across multiple industries have been relying on ORTEC’s routing and dispatch solution for years to deliver goods while saving time and money. With the emergence of last-mile delivery solutions and increased focus on real-time information, the support and need to adopt this emerging technology is becoming more mature and commonplace.

“The Gartner report shows that the benefits of last-mile delivery solutions are high, though just like any new technology, the market needs time to adopt and adjust for expectations,” said Marnix du Clou, ORTEC’s director of marketing and sales operations for North America. “Our goal is to support the long-term objectives of supply chain companies – and providing such innovation is just one way to reach it.”

Gartner’s findings are intended to help supply chain leaders understand how these technologies will evolve and could help benefit their operations.
