ORTEC Routing Solutions offer "Capabilities that leverage [Machine Learning] Technology"

ORTEC, a leading provider of optimization software and analytics solutions, is featured among a select group of vendors in Gartner’s Market Guide for Vehicle Routing and Scheduling for its routing technologies. This is the fifth time ORTEC has been cited in Gartner’s Market Guide since 2015.

The report offers an overview of the the trends and technology in the vehicle routing and scheduling (VRS) market to give supply chain leaders in-depth research into solutions. This year a key finding is the increased focus on how new technologies and functions can improve the ever-changing supply chain landscape.

“Being recognized by Gartner in the Market Guide shows the efforts that ORTEC continues taking to drive innovation and logistics across the industry,” said Jeff Bailey, CEO, North America at ORTEC. “As companies face ongoing challenges with COVID-19, we are helping our customers streamline operations and deliveries using automation, real-time data and analytics.”

New Challenges and Solutions: Machine Learning, AI and COVID-19

With COVID-19, there is increased focus on technology in supply chain – use as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence – and functions such as last-mile fulfillment and customer experience.

Gartner cites that ORTEC Routing Solutions offer “capabilities that leverage ML technology to analyze and determine the total cost to serve of a specific delivery, allowing route planners to understand the cost impact of the delivery and establish plans to correct unprofitable customers. ORTEC’s VRS solution also includes capabilities to optimize capacity in trucks or containers used during transportation, considering constraints such as the combination of bulk and packaged goods, allocating certain compartments for determined products or avoid cross-product contamination.

“Additionally, the solution offers advanced capabilities like collaborative and persona-based portals, time slotting capabilities, undesired U-turn prevention during route calculation and integrated resource planning for better utilization of resources. ORTEC’s solution can be applied within the same IT company network or as an SAP-embedded solution.”

Marnix du Clou, ORTEC’s director of marketing and sales operations for North America, said that the changing landscape of supply chain provides challenges but also opportunities to leverage new technology.

“We have seen a continuous movement in the industry of more companies relying on analytics and real-time information to make the best data-driven decisions,” he said. “As the Gartner report shows, ORTEC is staying diligent in providing the right technology at the right time to get the job done.”
