One year after the ROADEF Truck Loading 2022 started, it has now officially ended, and ORTEC is proud to have won third place. While competing against 51 other teams from various regions across the world, our team confidently solved a challenging 3D truck loading optimization puzzle. Three key ingredients that contributed to the success of the ORTEC team were dedication, diversity, and team spirit.
It will be news to no one that we are living in turbulent times, with multiple consecutive and simultaneous crises testing our defences. The combination of the global pandemic, extreme weather events, inflation, war and an energy crisis that has sparked unprecedented energy poverty and the possible loss of (European) industrial competitiveness has consequences, Stephan Segbers concludes. "We have to realize that energy will never again be as cheap as it used to be."

This month marks the official first anniversary of Analytics of a Better world, also shortened as ABW. As one of the founders, ORTEC is happy to support in pursuing ABW’s special mission: applying analytics together with non-profit organizations, researchers and companies to make an impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Netherlands and its North Sea neighbors want to go all out for offshore wind farms. The idea is to generate 260 gigawatts of electricity from wind turbines across the North Sea by 2050, turning the wind farms into 'Europe’s green power plant' . One of the forerunners in offshore wind is the Danish company Ørsted (pronounced Uh-rsted), which has now also gained a foothold in the Netherlands. Zoetermeer, The Netherlands – ORTEC is happy to announce Herman Wierenga has joined the Executive Leadership Team as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective June 1, 2023. He will take over the position of Marco Lock, who will take on the role of Chief Operating Officer for ORTEC Americas. In his new role, Wierenga will lead ORTEC’s global operations, and scale up the organization for future growth and impact.

We are living in uncertain times. Health crises, political instability, inflation, energy shortages, natural disasters, environmental issues…It affects us all. One could argue that those uncertain times aren’t a proper time to innovate in, which is often seen as the risky part of business, and that it’s much safer to protect what you have and wait for normal days to return. I believe the contrary is true, because uncertainty has become a certainty, and it’s rocket fuel for innovation.
